Biography
Oniel Hibbert is a highly talented Jamaican musician, songwriter, and performer, specializing in the “Sing Jay” genre. Born in the parish of St. Andrew, Oniel spent his early years there before relocating to Portmore, St. Catherine, where he resided for a significant period of time. He was born on May 17th and is the second of four children in his proud family.
Oniel received his education at Braeton All Age School and Jose Marti Technical High School in St. Catherine. Growing up, he developed a deep appreciation for various forms of music, including the works of influential artists such as Bob Marley, Luciano, Beres Hammond, Buju Banton, Tanya Stephens, L.U.S.T., Assassin, Etana, and Terro Fabulous, among others. This passion for music served as a means to overcome the challenges he faced in life.
In the early stages of his musical career, Oniel went by the name “Higher Flex.” This moniker was bestowed upon him by producer Stephen Hibbert and studio owner Micheal Steer, as they recognized his exceptional range, versatility, and unique approach to sound techniques, songwriting, and vocal delivery. During this period, Flex collaborated with the “Walkway Thirty Labels” and the “E55 Label,” recording tracks such as “Hotness” under the guidance of producer Orville Blake. He also worked with the Step-Out Production Label, releasing a song titled “Back It Ladies.”
Driven by an insatiable love for music, Oniel continued to pursue his career under a new artist name, “Parrable,” signing with Vision House Recording Over, helmed by producer Michael Askell Fairman. He recorded several noteworthy tracks, including “Before the Time,” “Better Life,” and “Wise and Awake.” Collaborating with Julian Salmon at “Expense Production Company,” he also produced songs like “Nah Let Yuh Go,” “Buss Mi Gun,” and “They Don’t Know What it Feels Like.” Currently, Oniel is affiliated with “Bickle’s Production and Management,” owned by producer Melbourne Foster. Together, they have recently released songs such as “The Mother Way” and “My Circle,” which are being promoted by “Stampede Promotion.”
